School of Computer Sciences was founded by Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala, India with an objective to meet the increasing demand for high-quality IT Professionals. Though one of the youngest departments of the University, the School has been able to achieve and maintain very high standards through its very special mode of instruction and extra-curricular activities.

The School currently offers Post-Graduate and Research Programmes in Computer Science. The School maintains two computing laboratories exclusively for the use of students and faculty members. They also have Internet access facility.

Since inception, ten batches have passed out with flying colours from the School of Computer Sciences department. Currently there are two full-time batches (2003-2005 and 2004-2006) of MSc. students at the school.

Courses Offered

MSc Computer science: A 4-semester full-time computer science course for graduate students.
PhD in computer science: Post-graduate students can obtain doctorate in computer science through full-time or part-time research.

ADMISSION PROCEDURES

Admission to MSc

Admission to the MSc course is based on performance of the candidates at three sections levels viz, the qualifying exam, the entrance exam and the interview.
Students with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Computer Application and having minimum 55 percent marks are eligible to appear for the entrance exam.

Admission to PhD

Post Graduates in Computer Science with minimum 55 percent marks are eligible for applying for the PhD programme. Eligible candidates with a strong commitment to do research can contact the school's office to register their names for an interview with the doctoral committee. However, candidates having a valid GATE score or a valid JRF of CSIR/UGC are preferred.

PLACEMENT ACTIVITIES

The School has a placement cell functioning under a faculty member. The cell organizes placement opportunities for the students who have successfully completed the course from the School. It also co-ordinates the placements for doing main project in industries. The cell undertakes the publication of Placement Brochure. With its close interactions with industrial organizations and alumni, the cell organizes interviews on campus for the benefit of the students.

Consultancy

The faculty provides consultancy services mainly in the form of Training and Orientation programmes for Institutions/Organizations.

Technical Expertise

The School offers technical advice and support in all matters relating to the computerization of various Sections, Departments and other Academic Institutions of the University. The technical staff of the School actively co-operates with the staff of the Computer Center in the development and installation of software in the various Administrative Sections of the University.

Interaction with Industries

Due to the rapid developments in the subject area the School needs to maintain constant collaboration with the industries / organizations. List of companies / organizations we are constantly interacting with include NPOL, ISRO, BARC, Microsoft, Oracle, Lucent Technologies, Infosys, Wipro, CMC, IMR, BaaN, HP, BFL Software, Pentasoft, US Software, Avenir Computers etc.

Seminars and Workshops for Public Groups

The school has conducted a number of Hardware workshops mainly for Computer Science students from various affiliated colleges and staff of the other departments of the University. These workshops give sufficient guidelines for assembling a system.

Refresher Courses

The School has conducted the following Refresher courses.

University sponsored Refresher course in Computer Science for Commerce teachers

All the faculty members regularly act as resource persons in the various Refresher courses organized by other departments and colleges.

C$$A: The Computer Science Student’s association

One among the major activities of the Computer Science Students’ Association (C$$A) is the INTERFACE, an annual symposium for computer science students from all over South India. The objective of Interface is to provide a common platform for the Computer students who are studying in College/university in South India. Another attraction of C$$A is our annual magazine IT-GLIMPSE. It reveals the insight of pioneers and experts in the different fields of Information Technology. It carries technical and feature articles by our Faculty, Students, Alumni and Computer Professionals.
