SCHOOL
OF CHEMICAL SCIENCES
Genesis
One among the very first statutory departments
constituted by the Mahatma Gandhi University
(erstwhile Gandhiji University) the academic
programs of the school of chemical sciences
(SCS) were initiated from the very inception
of the university. Known initially as Department
of Polymer chemistry which offered only one
M.Sc. program, SCS has now diversified and widened
its academic activities realizing the significance
of chemistry as the central science and the
need for the development of all aspects of teaching
and research in chemistry. At present the school
offers four different M.Sc. programs along with
M.Phil and Ph.D programs covering all branches
of chemistry and polymer science.
In
spite of the nationwide inability of universities
and colleges to attract talented students to
basic sciences, about 800 students appear for
our entrance test for admission to graduate
program. The teaching programs follow semester
system with course and credit pattern with effective
and continuous internal evaluations. Our M.
Sc. program provide a unique opportunity for
the students to take up a research project in
any National Laboratories or R & D institutes
of their choice as part of their fourth semester
course. This project-work provides excellent
exposure and instills confidence to our students
and enable them to make the right choice on
their career in science after completing the
masters program.
Admission
Procedure:
The
admission for the M.Sc and M.Phil. programs
is based on an all round performance in a national
level entrance examination , marks in the qualifying
examination and a subject Interview. The admission
for Ph.D. is based on a national level entrance
examination or on NET/GATE performance.
