SCHOOL
OF COMMUNICATION & INFORMATION SCIENCES
The
School of Communication and Information Sciences
(SCIS) was set up in 1995 under the non-subsidized
education scheme to impart high-end instructional
facilities in Journalism & Communication,
Printing & Publishing Sciences and Library
& Information Sciences. As such Post graduate
Courses were offered in all the three streams,
viz: MJC (Master of Journalism & Communication),
MAppSc(Master of Applied Sciences in Publishing
Science & Printing Technology) and MLISc
(Master of Library & Information Sciences).
A Bachelor degree in Library & Information
Sciences (BLISc) was also provided by the School.
After some time, due to technical reasons the
Post graduate course in Printing & Publishing
Sciences was discontinued. Presently the School
gives education in MJC, MLISc and BLISc.
The
intake of students for all the courses are always
hundred percent and excellent job opportunities
are open before those who come out successful
from this establishment. Further the School
is in continuous liaison with job providing
establishments to ensure proper placement of
our students. This is further highlighted in
the case of the Journalism students of the School,
where the placement prospects are cent percent.
The
Department of Journalism has thus become one
of the flagship establishments of the University
within a short span of time. Almost all media
establishments in and outside the State are
constantly seeking our students for absorption
as entry-level trainees in the various facets
of the media profession. Apart from this, our
students belong to one of the most sought-after
category in the academic segment also. The laurels
earned by the Journalism Department arises out
of the combined effort of the journalist-teachers
and students who are continuously striving hard
to achieve newer and newer heights in the ever
evolving, challenging and developing intricate
world of the media profession.
The
situation is almost similar with our Library
& Information Sciences students. Students
who pass out from here are being appointed as
Librarians in Higher Secondary Schools, Colleges
and professional libraries.
The
SCIS thus proves to be an excellent example
of how quality education and career could be
built up even within the limitations of the
Self-financing sector.
